Oklahoma Woodland
Owners Association (OWOA)

Founded in 1994 by Ms. Patt Nelson, Steve Anderson, and Champe Green from OSU's Department of Forestry, OWOA was created to represent timberland owners and provide educational resources. Early support came from the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF), with Kurt Atkinson as a key participant.

Leadership and Membership
Over its 21 years, OWOA had presidents like Ms. Nelson, Dale Wilson, John Ahern, and Dr. Craig McKinley. Membership included both in-state and out-of-state landowners, and the association maintained a strong voice in forestry matters, contributing to the Oklahoma Right to Practice Forestry Act and promoting Best Management Practices.

Activities and Annual Meetings
OWOA held annual meetings alongside the Forestry on the Grow Conference, featuring industry experts and educational sessions on topics like forest planning, GPS applications, estate planning, and federal tax laws. An additional event, often sponsored by OSU and ODAFF, combined educational topics with field experiences.

Merger with Oklahoma Forestry Association (OFA)
In 2015, OWOA merged with OFA to better serve its members. The merger, completed in May 2016, ensured continued benefits for landowners, including a dedicated OFA Board position for landowners. The merger's success was evident with increased attendance at the first joint workshop in Idabel.
